Responsibilities
The Parish Council is the tier of Local Government that is closest to the community that they serve. We are charged with the day to day running of theParish budget and work together with the community to look after the day to day running of the budget planning decisions and genral works to make the Parish a great place to live. We don’t look after Law and Order and regional issues, please look below to find out the responsibilities and the contact details of the partners you may want to make contact with.
Somerset Council provides many local services – from planning decisions, adult and children’s social care to rubbish collection and recycling, public health and education, roads, transport and leisure services, as well as support for businesses.

The first tier of local government the Parish Council supports the community by:
- giving views on planning applications and other proposals that affect the parish.
- alert relevant authorities to problems that arise or work that needs to be undertaken.
- help the other tiers of local government keep in touch with their local communities.
- manage the recreation ground and car park
- provide a Parish Ranger service
- provide grants to local organisations
- manage the Parish budget

- Maintaining public order and safety
- Enforcing the law
- Preventing, detecting, and investigating criminal activities
- Assisting in emergency scenes
- Responding to burglaries
Highways
To report a highways issue.
Report a problem on the road- Road maintenance: Fixing potholes, edge loss, and other road damage
- Bridge maintenance: Assessing and repairing bridges on the highway network
- Drainage management: Maintaining drains and gullies to prevent flooding
- Traffic management: Managing road closures, signage, and road markings
- Street lighting: Maintaining street lights
- Highway safety inspections: Regularly inspecting roads to identify potential hazards
- Tree management: Maintaining roadside trees
- Weed control: Managing noxious weeds on highway verges
- Overseeing roadworks: Managing permits and ensuring proper signage for construction projects on public roads
- Responding to complaints: Investigating and addressing issues reported by residents regarding the highway
- Snow and ice management: Clearing snow and ice from roads during winter conditions
